DIY Fall Mickey Wreaths on a Budget!

I absolutely love the holidays and I love craft projects so I figured I'd share one of my favorite crafts with you all! DIY wreaths using items from The Dollar Tree! I love taking items that are inexpensive and dull and turning them into something that looks expensive or even worthy of being sold! It's also a great feeling to make something that you're proud of and even something you can do at home with the kids. I can't wait until my daughter is a little older so she can do these with me as they are my favorite craft! The thing about wreaths is that there is no wrong way to do them! Every wreath is unique and every person does them differently and they always turn out so beautiful! For this project my mom, aunt and I all decided to make some really nice Mickey wreaths! I had originally bought stuff for my mom and I only but we ended up going to my aunts house for a BBQ and she wanted to do one. Unfortunately, the Dollar Tree was out of the smaller wreaths to make the Mickey ears so I gave up mine. I will add on some bamboo ones when they are back in stock though!

Here's what you will need to create your own beautiful wreath for fall:
  •  Scissors and/or wire cutters
  •  Hot glue gun and lots of glue sticks
  •  One 14 inch wire or 12 inch bamboo wreath per person
  •  Two 2 ct. packs of 8 inch wire or bamboo wreaths (make sure the proportions of the small ones and the big ones look okay enough for Mickey ears)
  •  Floral wire
  •  Ribbon, burlap or mesh (if you use ribbon, you will most likely need two of them. Be creative with your color and print choices)
  •  Assorted leaves and flowers (depending on how much of your wreath you want to fill, you can use anywhere from 3 packs to 10, it just depends on the color scheme and what you want.)
  •  Decorative bow (unless you know how to make your own)
  •  Anything else you'd like to add like spiders, bats, pine cones, little pumpkins. My aunt used a craft pumpkin for hers!
Step 1: Attach your small wreaths to your large one with floral wire and some hot glue to really secure it. It should look like this when you're done. Don't mind my goofy mom.

Step 2: Wrap your ribbon, burlap or mesh around the entire wreath. I used the mesh ribbon, it is a lot wider and I only needed one roll, I did not do the extra Mickey ears though! I think I would have been fine with one though. With my one large wire wreath, I was able to go around the whole thing twice. My mom used regular ribbon and needed to rolls of it for her Mickey wreath. When you finish, make sure you glue it on the back side.

Step 3: Designing your wreath! This is the fun part! Choose the flowers and leaves you want to put on and start pulling them off the stems. You can cut them with the scissors or wire cutters if you want a smoother surface for gluing. Make sure you leave a space if you'd like to add a decorative bow! Also, if you want to add extra stuff like pumpkins, bats, etc., leave those for step 5, its easier to put those on after you put the leaves and flowers on.

Step 4: Make sure leaves and flowers are secure! If this is going outside, you need to make sure nothing is going to fly off in the wind! If you don't feel comfortable gluing as you go, lay everything out first and see how you like it. My mom and aunt did that method. I just picked things up and glued it on as I went and it turned out so pretty!

Step 5: Add extras. After all the flowers and leaves are secured, add whatever you want! For mine (first picture below), I added pumpkins, berries and a pine cone. My mom (second picture below) added some bats, pumpkins and pine cones. My aunt (last picture) added a bat and a craft pumpkin with mini pumpkin Mickey ears! We called it a Mickey inside of a Mickey. We took a craft pumpkin and cut it in half, glued the little pumpkins in just the right spot to achieve the perfect Mickey ears and glued the bottom of it to the wreath. Use a lot of glue! Proper decorative bow placement will hide the extra glue.

You are now finished with your beautiful fall Mickey or regular wreath! As you can see, every wreath will be different. Some will have lots of items on it and some will have way less, it just depends on your preference. Just remember, sometimes less is more but no matter what it will be beautiful!
