Gideon's Bakehouse

Gideon's Bakehouse is one of the newest businesses to come to Disney Springs! Gideon's has gained popularity in central Florida for its half pound cookies and unique décor and has received several awards for best cookie and rightfully so! 

ABOUT GIDEON'S BAKEHOUSE

The creator of Gideon's Bakehouse, Steve Lewis, chose this name because he found a book that belonged to a boy named Gideon. Mr. Lewis thought he purchased an antique cookbook from 1898 but found something far greater. The young boy had dreamt of becoming a baker and had written notes and drawings throughout the book. Mr. Lewis decided to pay tribute to the boy and created Gideon's Bakehouse in his honor. 

The name Gideon then led to the theming of the shop which looks like a Victorian library with cute pictures reminiscent of Tim Burton's famous characters. They all have big eyes and another strange feature like wild hair, big elf like ears and even fangs. Although some may think it is strange and creepy, I think it is beautiful! The setting is complete with candelabras, fire and lantern style chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The ambiance is slightly spooky yet enchanting and it may just become my favorite place at Disney Springs! 

COOKIES

There is quite a range of cookies available as well! Their goal is to create an extraordinary chocolate chip cookie and they have succeeded. Cookie flavors include the Original Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Crunch, Cookies & Cream, Candied Walnut Chocolate Chip (Wednesday exclusive), Pistachio Toffee Chocolate Chip, Triple Chocolate Chip, Coffee Cake (Disney Springs location only) and Eternal Flame which is a Valentine's month exclusive. There is also Gideon's Bites available which are quartered pieces of cookie dipped in chocolate and sprinkles with toppings if you want a little bit of each flavor. There is a six cookies per person limit and cookies go on a first come first served basis unless you do an online preorder where you can order as many as you want. Some of the popular flavors or specials can go fast so make sure to get there early or take advantage of a preorder if you are set on a certain cookie. You can also get a warm cookie with ice cream on top at certain times as well! Check out their website for a list of seasonal cookies. 

CAKES

Not only are their cookies award winning but their cakes are as well! Their cake slices are huge and do not disappoint! They are each made with three layers and lots of buttercream. Cake slice flavors include True Red Velvet, a Chocolate Dipped Cookie Cake, a different flavor of chocolate cakes each day which include Peanut Butter Cup and Andes Mint Cookies & Cream Cake, a secret slice which will not be advertised in the store and are rare but keep and eye out on their Instagram and Facebook pages for announcements. There are additional flavors available for preorder that include The Eternal Flame Cake, Chocolate Everything Cake, Birthday Cake, Key Lime Pie Cake, Salted Caramel Cake and Cookies & Cream Cake as well as the ones previously mentioned. 

DRINKS

Make sure to take advantage of their delicious coffee drinks while you are there! These are so delicious and refreshing and are all vegan, made with oat milk and beans are locally roasted. These aren't ordinary coffee drinks either, they are all cold brew which is even better is you need your morning coffee or afternoon pick me up! Cold brew flavors include the Original Peanut Butter Iced Coffee which features a house-made blend of peanuts, the Gingersnap Cold Brew made with ginger and cookie butter and really features that ginger spice I love and a White Cold Brew which pairs well with all cookies.

They also serve Blue Sky 100% Cane Sugar Sodas, bottled water, Coke products, 2% and whole milk as well as chocolate milk if coffee isn't your thing. 

MERCHANDISE

Gideon's has a wide range of shirts available in both men's and women's cuts that feature the companies logo. Some shirts have the logo in addition to, what I refer to as the mascot, a gargoyle bat type of creature. They have stickers available with the same creature as well as an amazing Coffee Cake Cookie Candle that will make your entire house smell wonderful! Available now for a limited time is their winged logo pin which is really neat and a must have if you are a pin collector. 

OVERALL THOUGHTS

Gideon's Bakehouse is a place everyone needs to go to at least once in their lives! The flavors they have created are the best I have ever had! My favorite items were the Cookies & Cream cookie which I literally dream about, its is literally the best cookie in the world! I also enjoyed the Gingersnap Cold Brew, I am a huge ginger fan so this really hit the spot! I also have never had an oat milk before and that first sip was a bit shocking but I was hooked after that. It was the perfect amount of sweet and spicy! I also tried a slice of the Andes Mint Cookies & Cream Cake and it really sweet but so delicious. I consider myself a "sugarholic" and there is no way I could ever finish a whole slice on my own in one sitting. One slice last three days between my husband and I eating it. There is a lot of buttercream, there are three layers of cake and between each one is about one inch of frosting so be prepared for a sugar rush! As far as the food and drinks go, I give a 9/10 due the how sweet everything is. 

The overall theme and décor is beautiful and probably my new favorite theme for any restaurant/food establishment setting. I really like the dark room with red accent lights, it really brings the room to life. The lantern chandeliers on the ceiling and the candles lit draw you right into the scene and you feel you are in the Victorian era. I give a 10/10 on décor alone! 

Be prepared to wait! When we went, there was a virtual queue and it was about an hour wait, we got called back about 45 minutes later so it wasn't too bad but I've heard wait times can get up to several hours long. We went in the evening around 5 PM as well so time of day can have a huge impact. 

Overall, I am very please with Gideon's and I am excited to try new flavors throughout the year. I am most excited for Halloween time when The Frankenstein cookie comes out!
